On Saturday, November 15, 2013, the Japanese Community Association hosted a 'Bunko No Hi' celebration at Sangha Hall. Part of the festivities was a Shichi Go San kimono dress up for girls ages 3 and 7 and for boys age 5. We decided to allow Jada to learn and appreciate her Japanese heritage by partaking in this wonderful opportunity. It was customary in ancient Japan to celebrate these milestones for their children. Thank you Aunty Anne Chung for informing us and keeping us in the loop about these cultural events.
Here we are in front of the famous 'Omikoshi' which used to be carried in our old International Festival Lantern Parade by the sailors from the Nippon Maru. I used to march in these every year while attending Andrews Gym summer fun. It was revived this year in the JCAH parade held on this same day. What a neat tie into their Bunko No Hi celebration. I forgot to suck it in for this pic!
